A practice-focused examination of teaching and learning in science, using evidence-based evaluative inquiry to explore the teaching and learning of key science understandings. Includes critical examination of pedagogies in science and research into students’ science learning, including the nature of science.
Push back against low engagement and falling achievement levels in primary science education in New Zealand. This course will support you in using science education research to design teaching sessions that are interesting and relevant to students, supporting their achievement of scientific literacy goals. Exploring both theory and classroom challenges, by the end of this course you will be able to identify problems of practice using inquiry approaches, integrate digital technology into your teaching, turn research findings into practical action and more.
At the completion of this course, it is intended that students will be able to: Use science education research to design teaching and learning that is engaging, relevant and supports scientific literacy goals. Demonstrate professional knowledge for teaching science. Critically evaluate the science curriculum and related curriculum support resources.
