A critical examination of children's literature theory, leading to the ability to enhance literacy and critical literacy pedagogy.
Course overview
Do you have a passion for children's and young adult literature?
Through this fully-online course participants will explore how to apply literary theory to analyse selected texts, critiquing a range of literature programmes relevant to New Zealand children's literacy learning, examining links between literature, student motivation, engagement and literacy achievement.
Through this course you will:
1. Develop skills and knowledge which you can use to locate, summarise and critique research studies, as well as how to run your own inquiry projects.
2. Develop a canon of children's and young adult literature for your literacy and English programmes.
Assessment will include:
1. A critical analysis of a picture book and a novel for children and/or adolescents and the implications for use in the primary and/or intermediate classroom.
