An analysis of educational contexts and their impact on the learning and behaviour of students with particular reference to those with special needs. Emphasis is placed upon assisting teachers to develop inclusive learning environments that enhance academic performance and social behaviour.
How can we make our education system more inclusive of all children, young people and their families and whānau?
This new course speaks directly to this question examining centre, school and classroom practices in the contexts of international, national and local policies and practices.
It is valuable for early childhood educators, primary and secondary classroom teachers, as well as teachers who are supporting the development of their colleagues. Our international collaborations mean that we can make links for teachers wanting to learn at the University of Auckland and use that learning in local contexts anywhere in the world.
This course is delivered fully online, making it accessible to working educators anywhere in New Zealand.
If you take this course in Semester 2 and another online course, EDPROFST 764 Directions in Disability Policy and Practice, in Semester 1, you can complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Education with a focus on inclusive and special education from the University of Auckland fully online.
This course is a hybrid course, which means that the course is taught simultaneously in two modes of delivery. The first mode of delivery is a blended course: you will have some compulsory in-class sessions on the Epsom campus and complete the rest of the course online. The second mode of delivery is a fully online course: you will join the compulsory on-campus sessions remotely using a video-conference function, and complete the rest of the course online. When you enrol you will be able to select your choice of delivery mode.
