Description
This course is designed to guide teachers in their understanding of the New Zealand mathematics curriculum in Years 1-8 with a focus on the new curriculum being implemented in 2025.
The session will cover the key stages linked to the curriculum, and the mathematical understandings expected at each stage.
Developing a knowledge of how to teach key mathematical concepts to support student understanding, will be covered.
Formative assessment will also be a prominent feature and will provide participants with ideas about how they can use data from assessments to further inform teaching and learning.
At the completion of the course participants will:
•Know and understand the curriculum expectations for students in years 1-8 •Develop the knowledge to teach key mathematical concepts to students at all year levels •Understand how to use assessment data related to student achievement to inform further teaching and learning •Develop increased knowledge of the mathematics curriculum and the pedagogical practices that support effective teaching and learning
